Frequently asked questions

The following is a list of questions that we receive most often. If you have a question that is not listed below, please contact us.

Product Information

What does "vintage" mean?
Vintage means old- most of the medals used in the vintage enamel necklaces are 50-80 years old, but there are medals in our collection that are more than 100 years old. These medals are then reset with new chains, stones, etc.

What does "reproduction" mean?
The medals used in our Reproduction Medal collection are cast from original vintage or antique medals. Many of these originals were alloy or bronze, and reproducing them allows us to offer them in sterling silver as well as gold.

What does "one of a kind" mean?
One of a kind means exactly what it sounds like- that there is only one necklace exactly like it! Some medal styles are more common, but even when medals look alike, they have worn differently over the years, resulting in a unique starting point for each necklace.

How do I care for my City of Angels Jewelry Reproduction medal necklace?
City of Angels Jewelry Reproduction Medal necklaces are reproductions of vintage devotional medals, and are hand cast in solid sterling silver, gold or rose gold.

While the sterling silver necklaces have been oxidized to "age" them, the color will both brighten and soften with frequent wear.

While wearing the medal regularly is the best and most natural way to keep it looking clean, wiping it gently with a soft cloth works too. Using silver polish or another cleaning agent may cause the oxidation to wear unevenly.

How do I care for my City of Angels Jewelry vintage medal necklace?
City of Angels Jewelry Vintage Medal necklaces are made with unique, vintage devotional medals. While the medals are in excellent condition, they may not be perfect- please enjoy the imperfections!

While the settings and chains are all sterling or gold, the medals themselves are often silver plate over bronze or copper, and should be treated accordingly. It is expected that silver or gold plate will show wear over time. While wearing the medal regularly is the best and most natural way to keep it looking clean, wiping it gently with a soft cloth works too.

Enamel is a process by which glass and metal are fused together. While the medals have survived well for many years, they are antiques and should be treated carefully to avoid scratches and cracking. Please remove your necklace before swimming or bathing. If you have additional questions about caring for your necklace, please contact us.
